Endless Summer

The end of summer is upon us, and I've had so much to write about throughout the summer that I never got to. Lots of changes in our lives in the past few years, both good and not so good, but I'm starting to feel as though we've worked out the kinks, and can settle into things for a while. I know life always has its ups and downs, it's just so much nicer in the "ups". :-)

Let's see.... Ryan took a small and much needed break from soccer and is back at practice rockin' it like he does. (I know I'm bragging, but it really is fun for us to watch :-)). He will be playing on 2 soccer teams and a baseball team this Fall, so we'll see how that goes. It might be fine, since the older two boys don't play any team sports with practices and games every week, plus the Rec soccer is pretty laid back. I'm hoping that by the Spring, Ryan's soccer confidence on his Academy team will be good enough to drop Rec. He does want to try flag football and lacrosse at some point and we obviously can't just keep adding to the list! He was getting anxious for 1st grade until Meet the Teacher this morning where he got to meet his teacher, who is nice as can be and we've only heard great things, and see his classroom and who all is in his class. He says he's ready to go now!

Luke is still obsessed with MineCraft, but his friends are too. My nephew Gunner was here for a few days so they played a bunch together, and now that Gunner is back in OH, they FaceTime and play together, which is really cool. Luke also started piano lessons this summer, which he was unsure about until the sweetest lady on the planet showed up to teach him. Now I just have to remind him to practice, and he does. He will also start back up with golf lessons in a few weeks. Entering 4th grade will be an adjustment for him, so that, golf and piano are enough to put on his agenda for now, I think. He already knows his teacher, she used to teach Science Lab so he had her for that. He really liked her then, so I'm sure that won't change. I honestly haven't met a teacher at that school that I didn't like, and I've met plenty.

Brett lost yet another superintendent, which is too long and dramatic of a story to go into on my blog, but suffice it to say, it's been a bit of a bumpy ride. He really needed some downtime, which we were able to get last week on our vacation. The lake house is just such beautiful, peaceful place, you can't help but chill out and relax. Good for the soul. We kayaked, and rode the paddleboat, the ski boat and the pontoon, which the boys all love to "drive". Plenty of fishing, some swimming (although the water was cold) and even a last night campfire with s'mores. It takes a lot to get Brett to relax sometimes, but there is just seems to happen naturally.

As far as Jacob, there is more to say than I have time to right now. Hopefully I can get that done in the next couple of days, before school starts for me too. :-)

Funny story.... while in St. Louis, we had decided to just see what tickets we could get when we got there, because it was a big game and the tickets left online were too expensive. So Brett was scalping them from one African American gentleman but only had $63 cash on him. The guy was trying to disagree with the amount, when another African American gentleman walked up behind him and said, "You'd better take his money, or I will!" The two then launch into quite an argument right there on the street. I pull the boys back and once the guy had handed Brett the tickets and had our cash in his hand, we quietly slipped into the crowd, while the two gentlemen continued hollering up the street. (I always say, it's always an adventure when you're with the Leedys!) So a while later, Ryan looks at me and says, "Mom, why do brown people have to be so mean?"
