Some pics of Jacob's new AlphaSmart. He really likes it. It's very light weight and has a carrying case, so he can take it wherever. His teachers say he is doing very well with it, and it's much easier to get him to do his homework with it, because he enjoys it. He just types answers into it, and plugs it into a computer to print. Very fun. He's finished up tutoring after school with his teacher, tutoring on Wed nights with his former teacher at her house, and taken the TAKS for the first time. We should know results the end of May. His socialization group at school has also finished up for the year, but I know he really liked it, so hopefully they'll do it again next year.
Miracle League is going awesome, of course. I know I wrote about the Play it Forward guys collecting equipment, but I don't think I ever wrote about how it went. It was amazing. Bunches of high school kids showed up with all kinds of equipment. There is so much that Miracle League has some to spare. I meant to take a pic of the pile, but forgot. Here's a pic of the guys (on the far right is Jacob's Asst Principal and the far left is the Director of Athletics for the district):
We had a presentation at the Miracle League Field where I gave Jacob's Elem and the PIF guys these two pics blown up and on a board to hang on their walls. I also gave my parents and my neighbors each a plaque, thanking them for helping purchase the new sound system. Jacob was totally eating up all of the attention. He definitely realized that all of those people were there for him. Then we all watched Jacob play. Everyone enjoyed it. I've said it 100 times, but watching those kids play ball is something wonderful. They love it sooo much and smiles are all around. Now that Jacob has been moved up with the older kids, some of them are getting pretty serious about their ball playing! There's one who gets a strike and yells, "Uh Oh!". One in a wheelchair, that you can tell is nonverbal, and brother helps him hold his bat, hit the ball, pushes him around the bases, and the other day even caught a ball, put it in his hand and helped him throw it. I mean, just the sweetest stuff. And that boy is smiling from ear to ear the entire time. We were excited to learn that they are putting a field in here in our city, so we're super excited to see that happen. Jacob also got to participate in the first Rangers Fantasy Camp. It was about 10 or 12 former Rangers who came to the field and did stations with the kids. Jacob received his very own Rangers jersey with his name on it and got all of the guys' autographs on it. I was also asked to help get going a Miracle League Booster Club, so we'll see what that turns into. We look forward to all of the places Miracle League takes us.
