Sprinkles on the IPad

Busy busy around here! Let's see, Luke finished up his first season of Coach Pitch baseball. It's so much more fun to watch than Tee-ball. They actually have outs and runs and winners and losers, so it's competitive for the first time. He started off enjoying it, then had a slump where he wasn't sure, but finished up the season all smiles. They don't pass out trophies to everyone at this level, but his coach did give him the "Hot Corner Award" because he found a niche at third base. I've been told that Fall baseball is much calmer and laid back, so I look forward to that. Luke is reading chapter books, and everything in sight and telling time. He collects coins, which makes Dad and Papa very happy. He has a toy ATM machine that he got for Christmas that he uses a card, a password, and can make deposits and withdrawls. He saves his money to buy the things he wants. He will even offer to help Ryan purchase something he may not have enough money for. Always the caretaker. I think I'm going to put them all in swimming over the summer, and I'm going to look into something artsy for Luke. Maybe art classes or even piano or guitar. He has such creative energy I'd like to tap into. I have found some science camps I'm going to send him to as well.
Ryan finished up his second season of soccer and we're already signed up for the Fall. We joke about the fact that he must be adopted because he is just naturally good at soccer. I know I'm bragging, but it really makes no sense that he can just go out there and know how to play and be really good at it. It's not like we play soccer or watch soccer, he just does it. His gymnastics teacher wants to move him up as soon as he turns 5 because he's doing so well there. He turns 5 Aug 9th and we were going to send him to Kinder. Then I found out that more and more parents are waiting to start K. We debated and debated on what to do, long story short, we're going to wait. It finally came down to, if we could give him the advantage of one more year, why wouldn't we? I'm not worried about Elem, but as he becomes a teen, I would worry. He'd always be so young. He would be 17 as a Senior and not turn 18 until just a few weeks before leaving for college. Not sure I like that. Plus, I get one more year to hang with him.
Quick sweet Jacob story. Friday was his Field Day. I usually go up there and walk around with him to make sure he actually does the events he can do, but after talking to his teacher, I decided to stay away. She is such a great lady, she talks to her boys in her class all the time about making sure they include Jacob. She says she has a few that are verrrrry sweet boys. So after school, Jacob tells me that he did one of the giant waterslides. Very cool. He said he wasn't sure he wanted to but the boys encouraged him and he did it. Well then I get a phone call from a friend who says she was working the waterslide. She said that another boy in his class that also goes to Scottish Rite because of a prosthetic leg, helped Jacob half way up the ladder. Then the boy went in front of him and Jacob finished going up the rest of the way by himself, all the while being cheered on by his friends. She said then the boys got out of the line, which was very long, to go around the other side of the slide, wait for Jacob at the bottom, cheer for him and give him 'high-fives'. Are you kidding me? I've told this story several times, and I'm still getting chills writing it now. What a wonderful group of boys, I mean how great that Jacob has that. We had a quick ARD last week and I told them that story. His teacher and principal are already working on making sure a few of those boys are in his class again next year, FOURTH grade!! Wow. I know public schools can really catch a lot of flack, but I must say, I feel very lucky that we have Jacob at this school. He has come so far and they all truly care about him and his success. Everyone I talk to up there tells me how great he's doing and how much more he's talking to everyone, unlike ever before. His confidence is up, and that is just awesome. :-)

So we're gearing up for summer, ready for school to be out. Jacob has been asking about horse back riding and Luke wants to try piano. And the other day, there were "sprinkles on the IPad"..............
