typical?

Ok, so no huge changes, but definitely an improvement in Jacob's behavior over the weekend. He is washing his hand more again, but like I said, we'll take that over all of the other behaviors. He seems generally ok, and eating a ton, which is just fine for his skinny butt. Good weekend, went and saw The Croods movie at Jacob's request and he loved it. Spent some time with friends, watched Ryan's soccer game, which was freaking freeeezing, although Jacob and Luke sat in the car the whole time, which actually worked out great. Put together some puzzles, watched some TV and generally just hung out as a family and enjoyed our time together. I am working on us getting more and more of that just the 5 of us time. Brett agreed with me this morning that the weekend was the smoothest we've had in quite some time. Don't think I mentioned that the medicine he is taking are dissolvable tablets, which are so weird, but cool. They are really lightweight, like Styrofoam almost, and they dissolve very quickly, which works great for Jacob. He actually reminds me that he needs to take them. Dr said we'd see results within a week, and we are on day 5, so hopefully we'll see some real improvement by this weekend. Boys don't have school Friday, so Jacob was happy about that. He has the stupid STAAR test next week, not that I really stress that, although the education higher ups might not be happy with me for saying that. Oh well. He will also go see Psychiatrist next week, and will be making an appointment with the Psychologist that I did talk to last week and I really liked her. The deal is, Brett & I meet with her for about an hour soon, and we make an appt for some time in June for her to assess Jacob. She said it is usually around 6-8 hours spread over a few days. She will then write up a full evaluation report that I can use for myself, the schools, the Psych, whatever I need it for. We will also meet again with her for 1 1/2 hours after the assessment so she can go over it with us. It is expensive, but like Brett said, "whatever it takes". It could really give us some answers and also a sort of 'blueprint' to work from as far as Jacob's behaviors, and what we and the district can do to help him achieve. I also interviewed one of Jacob's former teachers for an assignment in one of my classes, and we always have so much to talk about. The one thing we discussed which is still on my mind is the expectations in this district on the students. It is a very stressful, pressure-filled, rigorous district and these kids are pushed hard. As much as I appreciate students being pushed to their full potential, I just don't know how truly important that is. I mean, my kids can be successful in life in many many ways, and they don't need this district to accomplish that. I don't know, just kind of stuff I'm tossing around. I have always said that Luke will be my barometer for that. If we hit a point where he is just completely stressed out and unhappy, don't think I won't pack it up and sell this house to move somewhere more "typical". I guess that's the word I'll use. We moved to these schools for a reason, and I'm not sure that reason is being fulfilled anymore. We'll see, who knows what the future holds. For now, we are just chugging along.
Sooo moving right along, this semester has flown by. Speaking of which, I have reading, homework, and 2 papers due this week so I should get on it. Ttfn!
