of course he's student of the year

Good news and great news! Not sure which is which, but Jacob received the 7th grade Student of the Year award for Art, and I have a final appointment to accept a job at one of the elementary schools in our district!
Jacob first. I got an email from his school the week before telling me that he was going to be receiving an award at the 7th grade awards ceremony the next Monday. It did not say which award, but it asked that I not tell him so that it could be a surprise. It also said that students were asked to dress up for the ceremony, so I got to do a little shopping. Jacob has outgrown most of his clothes anyway, so he needed some new ones. He now wears a Men's large in shirts, men's 30x32 jeans (although I think that's going to go to 30x34 soon, if there is such a thing, tall and skinny!), and a size 11.5 in shoes!! I have to look up to talk to him! So anyway, his wonderful teacher came to sit by me in the stands and asked if I had told him anything. When I told her I hadn't, she thought maybe she should go tell him that if he happens to hear his name, he should get up and walk to the front. Ha! Poor thing would probably turn and look at us for direction otherwise! So when his name was called, he did just that, got up, in front of all those kids, and walked to the front of the gym to receive his award from his art teacher. The kids were all quiet at first (not recognizing his name, I assume), but once they saw him walking they all started cheering..... sniff sniff..... :-)

Below are two pictures(sorry they are so blurry, I was crying....): one of him accepting the award from his Art teacher who chose him, and the other is his Asst Principal, who has become one of Jacob's buds. He stood up just to shake Jacob's hand and congratulate him... sniff sniff (again)... :-) Obviously the third is Jacob with his super proud (and emotional) parents!

The other good news is that I got a teaching job! I don't know all the details yet as I still haven't even signed my contract, but I know that I will be teaching Special Education (Co-Teach & Resource) at one of the elementaries in our district. I'm just not sure which grades, as they are usually divided up among the special ed teachers. So more on that later. Ryan will switch schools and come with me for third and fourth grades, which will make my sweet mama's boy very happy. :-) Luke stays where he is anyway, and Jacob will be at his same school for one more year (and then high school! ahh!) and they will bus him for us.
So with all the storms and flooding going on around us this Spring, we are doing well. An entire two families were swept away this past weekend in Wimberley, TX when the house they had rented for the holiday weekend was swept off of its foundation down the Blanco River. Eight of the nine are still missing. This just makes me that much more thankful and grateful for the things in my life, and I hug all of my dudes a little bit tighter this week. Seriously, I do, and they pretend not to like it.... ;-)
