Just went back through some of my old blogs. Watched the "Peed in my Eyeballs" video again, still makes me lol. He was so little. Also saw my blog about Duke, the dalmation. Ya, we gave him back. He was just a sweet as could be, but would not stop chewing everything up. Three bike seats, 3 helmets, shoes, leashes, my cushions off the back porch, and the list goes on. We have waaaay too much stuff lying around our house to deal with that. So now we just have Gus, the 5 month old Brittany. He's cute as a button and a little toot. The boys love him and Brett's super attached, so I guess he's a keeper. Btw, to explain where we got his name. Brett's all time favorite movie is Lonesome Dove. Robert Duvall plays "Augustus McCrae", Brett's favorite character. With all 3 of our children, Brett tried to convince me to name them Gus. This was not going to happen, so now he finally got his "Gus".
So I'm officially signed up for Real Estate classes and did my first lesson yesterday. About to do maybe a couple more after this post. It's certainly new territory for me, but I think I'll enjoy it. Thinking I may need to take the laptop and go somewhere with WiFi, too many distractions at home. I also postponed my Grad school app until Fall. I just have to write my Personal Statement and send everything in and they'll give me an answer soon. Still not totally sure that getting my Master's is really what I want/need to do, but don't want to just walk away without really thinking about it. Holidays are over, boys are back in school, no one is sick, and it's a new year; so Brett and I are going to sit down and really talk about everything. I'd like to really get a plan, not just talk about getting a plan. I also have a bunch of tax stuff for the business to do, fun fun. I've been doing it for so long now that it isn't as hard as it used to be. Starting out, I had no idea what I was doing, so I made many mistakes. And making tax mistakes is obviously a big deal. There's all kinds of paperwork to be filled out and sent in if you mess up something on the original paperwork. Now, I keep my records the way I need to and understand how it all works, so everything goes much smoother.
Enough about me, this is about the boys, right? Just signed Luke and Ryan up for "gynastics", so they're excited about that. Trying to get Jacob into horse back riding again, but that isn't happening for some reason. I'm going to call a different place and see about getting him in there. Luke's signed up for baseball, which makes him happy since football was not the experience he had hoped for. Ryan is signed up for soccer again since he rocked it last season. He was heard yelling "I am the best soccer player ever!" We really gotta work on that self-esteem issue with him.
Miracle League is just around the corner for Jacob as well. This season will be extra special for us. A few months ago a fire damaged their equipment and sound system. Brett and I and our neighbors, Bert and Holly, and few other people, put our money together and over the Christmas break we purchased a new sound system. I'm still working on finding a "power cart" to put everything in, but hopefully soon I can find something that will work and we can go ahead and give it to Miracle League. Obviously we need to make sure everything is up and running before the season starts. I also was pleased to receive an email inviting us to another thing for ML. When the fire happened, I sent out mass emails asking for help. Jacob's principal got in touch with a friend whose son is involved in a group called Play it Forward. They are a group of, I think, high school boys that collect gently used sports equipment to donate to groups that can't afford them. So they have been working with ML and are having a gathering on the 29th to get all the equipment together and I guess have some kind of presentation to ML. They have invited our family to be there to introduce us, etc. Very cool, I have to admit. I think it will be a great experience for all of us, but I love what my boys can get out of it.
We had a quick, semi-formal ARD for Jacob this week. His teacher was really concerned about him communicating better at school. Something we have all agreed to focus on this year. At home, in his comfort zone, Jacob will talk your ear off. When I drop him off in the morning, he will be laughing with his brothers and then get out of the car and his facial expression will change, he will look down, and most people get mumbles and no eye contact. So, we're all working on that. I took him to his last years teacher's house last night to have her tutor him. She really pushed Jacob and he did very well last year working with her, so I figured she would be the best to do the job. They got a lot done, way more than I would have been able to get out of him myself. That how kids are, right? So we are all reminding him to look at us when he speaks and to speak clearly. We dropped his meds down and he is starting to come out of his shell already. They say he is talking to his peers at lunch and in the classroom more, but he is still able to focus and work, which is awesome. I'm also looking into this place that a friend told me about that has speech therapists that work with small groups on socialization issues and also organizational skills, something he definitely needs. We're working on scheduling now, so hopefully we can work something out.
Luke was put into a little reading group a few months ago to help with his reading. Honestly, something that suprised me. He's such a smart kid, I didn't think about him needing help, but the two aren't always related I guess. So he's been working hard at school and at home and Brett and I have both seen great progress in his reading and his confidence. Well yesterday I got an email from his teacher saying that he is doing so well, he doesn't need the extra help anymore, so we're very pleased with that. Now I'm debating on art classes or maybe starting a musical instrument...... I'd like to find something for him to put his energies into, he's so creative and hands on.
Ryan and Jacob both went to the eye doctor yesterday and got new prescriptions. He said Ryan's didn't change much, but we don't need to do drops, so that's good. Jacob's was turning in a bit more than last time, so they added a prism to his glasses to help correct that. I couldn't even begin to tell you what that means, but this man is a genius at what he does, so no questions from me.
Something funny Ryan has been saying lately is "I can't a-bleve _____" It's pretty cute.
